What is the meaning of PIVOTAL TRIAL?

Posted By
A pivotal trial can refer to a clinical trial or study intended to provide evidence for a drug marketing approval, e.g. by the US FDA. Phase III trials are assumed to be pivotal so the phrase is often used for the rare pivotal phase II trials.
A drug pivotal study is a definitive study in which evidence is gathered to support the safety and effectiveness evaluation of thedrug for its intended use. Evidence from one or more pivotal clinical studies generally serves as the primary basis for the determination of reasonable assurance of safety and effectiveness of the drug.
A pivotal trial is a clinical trial designed to provide evidence for the efficacy and safety of a medical intervention, such as a new drug or medical device. These trials are typically conducted after earlier phase trials have shown promising results and are crucial in determining whether a treatment should be approved by regulatory authorities for widespread use. Pivotal trials often involve larger numbers of participants and more rigorous study designs compared to earlier phases, and their results can have a significant impact on medical practice and public health policies.
